Bilton Silver (Rugby) Band brought the world of James Bond to life on Saturday 3 October, as our Nobody Does It Better concert proved a real success at St Andrew’s Church in Rugby.
With advance tickets completely sold out, there was plenty of anticipation ahead of an evening celebrating more than six decades of 007 films and their unforgettable soundtracks.
The programme took the audience on a musical mission through the Bond franchise, from the unmistakable themes of Goldfinger and On Her Majesty’s Secret Service to the action-packed sounds of The Living Daylights, Skyfall and No Time to Die.
The music of James Bond has always been about more than a memorable theme tune. Its distinctive combination of powerful brass, driving percussion, dramatic melodies and sophisticated arrangements makes it a natural fit for a brass band. The evening showcased that versatility, bringing together music from different generations of films and a wide range of musical styles.
There were also opportunities for our soloists to shine. Alastair Rowe featured on soprano cornet in Live & Let Die, while Jodie Kelsall took the cornet spotlight in Writing’s on the Wall, Sam Smith’s theme from Spectre.
Our vocalists added another dimension to the evening, with Jennie Adnitt singing Skyfall and the much-loved Nobody Does It Better, while Laura Moran performed For Your Eyes Only. These iconic songs brought the glamour, emotion and drama of the Bond films to the concert, complementing the full band’s performances.
A sell-out concert is a fantastic result for a local non-profit band, and we are incredibly grateful to everyone who bought a ticket, joined us for the evening and continues to support live music in Rugby.
A huge thank you goes to all our players, our soloists and vocalists, and everyone who worked behind the scenes to organise and deliver the concert. Events like this take considerable time and effort, and the commitment of our members and volunteers makes them possible.
We would also like to thank St Andrew’s Church for hosting us in such a wonderful setting.
If you missed out on tickets for Nobody Does It Better, there are plenty more opportunities to enjoy Bilton Silver live over the coming months, with our festive performances just around the corner.
Our upcoming events include the President’s Concert on 27 November, bringing together Bilton Silver, the Training Band and Evolution Band, followed by Christmas Magic… and More! at Rugby Theatre on 13 December and Festive Favourites at St Mark’s Church on 19 December.
Keep an eye on our website and social media channels for full details, and make sure you get your tickets early to avoid disappointment.
Thank you once again for supporting Bilton Silver (Rugby) Band. For one night, Rugby was shaken, stirred and thoroughly entertained — and we couldn’t have done it without you!
