Wallace & Gromit: Bilton Silver Delights at TheBarn

Bilton Silver’s recent concert at TheBarn in Bidford-on-Avon proved to be far more than just an evening of brass music — it was a heart-warming celebration of community, nostalgia, and the timeless magic of animation.

With Wallace & Gromit: A Grand Day Out as the centrepiece, the band delivered a lively and uplifting programme that brought generations together, combining beloved film music with the unmistakable energy of live brass performance.

A Musical Journey Through Animation Classics

The evening began with a wonderful selection of music from some of animation’s most iconic films. Audiences were treated to memorable themes from favourites including Chicken Run, Toy Story 2, The Incredibles, and more — a programme packed with recognisable melodies that appealed just as much to lifelong Disney and Pixar fans as it did to younger audience members discovering these stories for the first time.

The concert struck a perfect balance between fun, familiarity, and musical excellence, with each performance reigniting cherished childhood memories while showcasing the band’s versatility and warmth.

A standout moment in the programme came through the band’s exceptional solo performances. Flugel horn player Judith Hayes delivered a beautifully moving rendition of When Somebody Loved Me, capturing all the warmth and emotion of the much-loved piece, while Amy Ablett brought charm, personality, and brilliant musicianship to the stage with her performance of The Bare Necessities on EEb Tuba. Amy’s solo was a true audience favourite, combining playful character with impressive technical skill and proving that the tuba can take centre stage with both humour and style.

A Grand Day Out… With Live Brass!

The true showstopper was, of course, the live performance accompanying the screening of Wallace & Gromit: A Grand Day Out. With the lights dimmed, the band illuminated only by stand-lights and the audience armed with popcorn and sweets, the stage was set for a truly cinematic experience.

This much-loved animated classic took on a whole new dimension as Bilton Silver performed the soundtrack live, adding fresh energy, humour, and excitement to every scene. The combination of screen and stage created a truly immersive experience, with the band’s precision and musicality enhancing the charm of Wallace and Gromit’s lunar adventure.

Under the expert direction of conductor Jack Fisher, the performance was both polished and playful, reflecting the hard work and dedication of everyone involved. From comic timing to sweeping musical moments, the band brought this iconic film to life in a way that captivated the audience from beginning to end.

An Encore to Remember

Just when it seemed the evening couldn’t offer any more, Bilton Silver returned with a crowd-pleasing encore featuring much-loved themes including The Muppet Show and Scooby Doo — the perfect ending to an unforgettable night.

The atmosphere was one of joy, shared memories, and pure entertainment, with audience members of all ages united through music and laughter.

More Than a Concert

This special event was a reminder of what community brass bands do best — bringing people together, creating unforgettable experiences, and proving that live music can transport us back to the happiest of times.

For Bilton Silver, A Grand Day Out was not only a musical success but another shining example of the band’s commitment to imaginative programming and community connection.

We’d like to thank everyone who joined us for this memorable evening, and we look forward to sharing many more musical adventures with you soon.
