‘SIX in the MIX’ with Brass4Oakfield – a Bilton Silver Training Band initiative
A musical alliance between Rugby’s Oakfield Primary School and Bilton Silver Band has sprung into action through the positive relationship Oakfield School have with the band’s Repiano cornet player and Training Band Musical Director, Diane Fisher. The initiative is as a result of the infectious enthusiasm of both Diane and Heather Fielding, Head at Oakfield Primary – whose encouraging and supportive response has driven the project forward.
Di, who has provided Key Stage 2 music education for 8 years at Oakfield, will be giving 6 lucky youngsters the opportunity to learn a brass instrument.
The instruments, provided by Bilton Silver Band with the help of funding from the band’s youth development budget, are provided free to the children alongside their tuition and an ensemble in school. The pupils will also attend Bilton’s ‘Mini Brass” on Monday evenings. Mini Brass provides a fun environment for beginners between 6.45pm – 7.15pm – part of the Bilton Silver Academy4Youth Training Programme.
How exciting that Bilton is able to contribute to these children’s musical education by forging links with the community in such a positive way!
We at the band wish all 6 youngsters the very best of luck as they develop their buzzing lips and expand their lungs, and look forward to hearing them make fabulous sounds at Bilton Silver HQ in Winwick Place sometime soon.
