Midlands Area Contest 2022

Saturday 27th February saw this year’s Area Contest at a new venue at the Cube in Corby due to Bedworth Civic Hall being in use as a CovID vaccination centre. It was all change this year as the band were led by our resident Musical Director, Tony Hodgetts, due to a contest date change making our Professional Conductor David Stowell unavailable. Spectrum was the piece, a technically difficult score which was written for the British Open in 1969.

The band played well and earned a very respectable 8th place out of 16 bands. After the constraints of the pandemic and this resulting in the 2021 contest being cancelled it was just nice to be back on a contest stage again!

As well as the Senior Band our Evolution Band did us proud competing in the 4th section on Sunday 6th March at the same venue. They were by far the youngest band there but this didn’t affect their confidence. 4BR took to their Twitter page to congratulate the youngsters who ‘took it in their stride and showed real commitment to the work in hand’.

The band were ably led by their Musical Director Jack Fisher, fresh from his National Finals win assisting Fodens and their lively performance gave them and us lots to be proud of!
