On Saturday 5th April 2014 the Bilton Silver Training Band and Mini Brass joined together to set a target of walking, cycling or running 500 miles. 500 miles is the Training bands favourite piece of music which inspired the Training Band committee to combine the ideas of a sponsored event into the music that the band plays.
With members of the bands and parents, grandparents, siblings and friends meeting at Draycote water we had a total of 103 people gathered at the starting line. After a group photo everyone set off on the 5 miles around Draycote.
With the cyclists powering to the finish line first and the runners closely behind they decided to do another 5 miles to raise the total of miles completed, the walkers began to come in with some singing and listening to “500 miles” all the way round.
When everyone had been counted in, the Training Band and Mini Brass members and helpers completed 605 miles. This was a morning filled with enthusiasm and motivation to complete the target of 500 miles the bands came together and raised a fantastic £1371.60 which will be put towards instruments and music for the bands.
A big thank you to everyone who took part and helped with the event and made it such a success.
