Steve started playing cornet, aged 7, with the local church band, under the tutelage of the late Maurice Greaves. Whilst in the church band, Steve moved onto baritone, before progressing to Enderby Youth Band aged 13. It was here that he took up playing Ebb bass and was involved in tours and contests with the band. After finishing with Enderby Youth Band, Steve played with various other bands, including Enderby and Bedworth.
Steve took a hiatus from playing for a number of years, but in 2023 took up a euphonium seat at Coventry Festival Band, playing with them at the Midlands Area contest in 2024. Spotting an advert for a euphonium player at Bilton in May 2024, Steve decided to take the leap and apply, and the rest is history. Not only has he become a valued member of the band since joining in June 2024, but has also taken up the position of Instrument Officer.
